DIY Whipped Shea Butter in your kitchen

Whipped shea butters are most naturalistas delight. They are preferred for use to raw butters because they are soft and easier to apply. I have been using whipped butter from Nature and Nurture hair clinic and it has been pretty good. I ❤ it. But l got an excess supply of pure raw shea butter and felt like it time to visit the lab, lol. So today, we shall be making whipped shea butter.

For your DIY whipped butter, make sure to get original, unrefined raw shea butter. Original pure unrefined are best sourced from reputable stockist. There are a handful of them you can trust.  Click on the links below to see them

Now to make your whipped butter, wash your hands and dry. Get clean measuring cup, spoon, electric mixer/handmixer. I will advice you get a handmixer than stress your self doing the hand thing. If you want affordable electric mixers, check out  Here for affordable ones .

Place a small quantity of water in a pot and boil.

Turn off the heat and place a bowl of 1/2 cup of shea butter over the bolied water.

Watch it melt. You can stir with fork to quicken the melting process. Be careful not to overheat so as not to lose its natural beneficial properties.

Take down the bowl from the pot of boiled water.

Leave it to cool. It took more time that I presumed it should. So I placed it in the refrigerator to cool a bit but was careful to take it out at the right time.

Next, add 1 tablespoons of coconut oil and 2 tablespoons of castor oil/olive oil.
Then begin to whip whip whip till it turns cream and fluffy. Yes, you are looking at your whipped butter.

If you choose to make whipped shea butter without oils, that is alright. lt will still turn out soft and creamy. lt is the whipping process that turns it soft and creamy.

To retain its full natural nutrients of the shea butter, you can mix with your oils in the unmelted form. lt might take longer time to get fluffy and much more longer time when whisking with hand. But the unmelted method is a better option when you want your nutrients intact.

Your whipped shea butter is a multi purpose product. lt can be used and body cream free from chemicals , hair moisturiser, frizz tamer, hair detangler, prestyler, hair growth leave-in conditioner and more.

It can last for more than 6 months. And can last longer when you keep it in the refrigerator.

lf you for some reason couldn't make your whipped butter, you can get already made quality whipped butters. Click  here to view them .

Discover Green Tea therapies for healthy hair.

The holidays are here again! 😃😃😃😊😊 I hope you are having great time with the ones you loves. I am sure having a Wow time with family 😄 So I decided to put up a post now that have some free time.

Have you ever used tea on your hair? Some might think l mean using tea made of bournvita and milk. No. l mean tea made from infused harvested tea leaves or bagged tea. lt is common here to find tea in the  bagged form (eg Lipton tea)  than in leaves or powder in the grocery shops. There are different kinds of tea but our focus in this post will be on green tea and how you can use it on your hair.

Green tea is effective in reducing hair loss and promoting hair growth. How?

Green tea  is rich in vitamins (A,C, E) and minerals that strengthen hair follicles.

Green tea contains antioxidants in form of catechins and its derivatives with epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) constituting a greater part.EGCG relaxes the arteries (blood vessels), improving blood circulation in the micro cappillaries to hair folicles and acts as protection from harmful UV rays

Green tea contains 5-alpha-reductase that blocks DHT (dihydrotestosterone), that is responsible for causing baldness 😀 thereby fighting baldness.

Green tea proves to be an excellent scalp cleanser thereby preventing scalp infections like dandruff.

So the question now is, how can you incorporate green tea in your hair care regime?

Hair rinse
Simply brew about 2 -3 tea bags in a cup of boiled water for about 5 minutes. Take out the tea bags, allow to cool. lf you are using green tea leaves, you might have to leave it in the boiled water a longer time to infuse.
Next, gradually pour it over your hair and massage your scalp as you do. Cover your hair and rest for about 20 minutes. Then rinse it out with cool water and then style on damp hair.

Hair protein treatment.
Beat an egg into 2tbsp of well grounded green tea powder. Apply it over and leave it on for about an hour. Then rinse it out well with cool water. this hair treatment might leave particles of the green tea in your hair. But they do come off  from hair with time. So you do not need to worry about trying this hair treatment.

Mix with oils
Mix green tea powder with a carrier oil like coconut oil, olive oil or jojoba oil to a desired consistency. Leave it in for at least 24 hours to infuse well into the oil. Next sieve on a clean light cloth. A cotton hankerchief will do. This is a bit messy. You do not need to bother washing the oils of your hands. Just rub it off on your hair. Apply the infused oil over your hair from hair tips  to scalp. Gently massaging your scalp. Cover your hair and rest for about 1hour. Then rinse it off. This can serve as rinse out conditioner.

For maximum benefits, you need to use pure green tea. Over processed green tea with additives might have lost some of its nutrients. I found out that pure green tea does not taste all that great. So that might be the reason some people prefer drinking brewed green tea bags that have additives.

You can get green tea brands at grocery shops/supermarket in and around town/cities here in nigeria. To isolate a pure green tea brand, examine the content on the ingredient list before you buy. Some green tea brands contain ginseng, honey, lemon, ginger and more. You can shop varieties here

l isolated some good green tea brands you can shop online.

Julestherapy -Green tea extract
Puritan's Pride - Green tea leaves
Eco Essence Organics Green tea extract

lf you are not the DIY kind of person 😆, you can get good hair products that contain green tea. Here are some of them

Revlon- Green tea conditioner
Aphogee keratin & Green tea shampoo

Note: For extreme cases of progressive hair loss, it is advisable to see a health specialist / trichologist.

FULL BRAIG WIG FROM AIBEE'S HAIR COLLECTION

It was a great feeling when l tried out Aibee's full braid wig at @theeventshowng that was held in Port Harcourt few weeks ago. Again last weekend at @ocho_mma, she happened to be one of the vendors at the event. She sold out her braid wigs at the event. l feel l shouldn't keep this good feeling and goodnews to myself. So today will be all about Aibee's braid wig.

lt is true that the taste of the pudding is in the eating. l have come across a few brands of handmade braid wigs. Some of them have very visible spaces in between the braids that you will need to struggle to get a good styling that will hide them, thereby limiting your styling options. Some others do not properly fit on head, making you feel self conscious and too careful that it does not fall off from your hair and embarrass you.

But Aibee' braid wig is everything. lt is professionally made to hold on tight on the head, but not too tight to make you uncomfortable. You could jump and tumble with it without fears.. Sounds like am exaggerating..lol.. You have more styling options too.

So ladies, you need not worry about where and how to get a perfect braid wig.

You have a bad hair day? You have a dinner/event to attend and you are too busy to visit the salon or short of ideas on hair style? You want a full hair of braid wig in less than a minute? Just flip on Aibee's braid wig, style or let it fall of your shoulders and you are good to go.

It goes for #15,000. I must say it is affordable. A full braid wig in 24" for #15,000 naira! Babes, that is a cool bargain.

If you want it customized in different colors, length, and braid type and size, she's got you covered too.

Human Hair Weaves Revival Session.

Howdy? Hope cool?

I must apologize for not publishing post frequently like I use to. I got a bit busy with my other business. There is more demand now for my handcraft that l barely have time left to write articles. I aint complaining. Thank God for everything. But I will do my best to make it up to you here. So lets get down to today's topic.

With all the rave about natural hair and crochet braids, one might think that the market for weaves will gradually close down. That would be a quick conclusion tho. Weaves sew-ins are not that celebrated in the natural hair community. I guess majority of us know that. But weaves are not for sew-ins only, they are for wigs too.

Now I am on a teeny weeny Afro which you would have noticed if you follow my Instagram page. I could not help desiring more of wigs to switch looks easily.

So I am turning all weaves into wigs. I searched for my old human hair weaves to revamp into wigs. Then I found a dirty old smelling one (Aww! I kept you enclosed in a mess for about 9 months. lt was not intentional).

Here's how I revived my old dirty weave to a clean curly hair :
First, I worked out the tangles with a wide tooth comb starting from the ends carefully not to pull forcefully. For large tangles, I used my fingers. Next I poured a reasonable amount of shampoo into a bowl of water enough to submerge the weaves. I placed the weaves into the shampoo water and left it for about 10 minutes to loosen up the dirt within.

Then I gently rub the dirty mold covered areas. To bring out the dirt from the weaves body I did the dip-redip motion in the shampoo water for very few minutes.

Then I rinse repeatedly, changing water until it all the suds disappear  and water is clear. I try not to squeeze during the process.

They say, I mean internet, that we should use a mild  shampoo but I used an ORS sulfate shampoo which might leave my weaves dry and consequently frizzy. So I had to condition it to prevent this and return its shine and luster.

Hence, I dissolve a size-able amount of the conditioner in a small amount of water, worked it through the weaves in batches and left it to penetrate for about 1hour 30 min. Actually, that was a longer time than l planned.

Then I rinsed out the conditioner and wrapped it over a clean cloth to absorb excess water.

Next I comb through with a wide tooth comb, rubbed oil between my palm and smeared it over the damp weaves in batches and re-combed them. Finally, I styled it with rollers and left it to dry completely.

Does it not look great? It smells good too.

Are you wondering why I did not use warm water?
In reality, warm water gives a quick thorough wash, dissolving the accumulated oils, dirt and product build ups easily. That is its advantage. But overtime human hair becomes dry and frizz when you frequently expose it to heat. I learnt that from experience. Tell me what you think.

I will love to know your views.
