Discover Green Tea therapies for healthy hair.

The holidays are here again! 😃😃😃😊😊 I hope you are having great time with the ones you loves. I am sure having a Wow time with family 😄 So I decided to put up a post now that have some free time.

Have you ever used tea on your hair? Some might think l mean using tea made of bournvita and milk. No. l mean tea made from infused harvested tea leaves or bagged tea. lt is common here to find tea in the  bagged form (eg Lipton tea)  than in leaves or powder in the grocery shops. There are different kinds of tea but our focus in this post will be on green tea and how you can use it on your hair.

Green tea is effective in reducing hair loss and promoting hair growth. How?

Green tea  is rich in vitamins (A,C, E) and minerals that strengthen hair follicles.

Green tea contains antioxidants in form of catechins and its derivatives with epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) constituting a greater part.EGCG relaxes the arteries (blood vessels), improving blood circulation in the micro cappillaries to hair folicles and acts as protection from harmful UV rays

Green tea contains 5-alpha-reductase that blocks DHT (dihydrotestosterone), that is responsible for causing baldness 😀 thereby fighting baldness.

Green tea proves to be an excellent scalp cleanser thereby preventing scalp infections like dandruff.

So the question now is, how can you incorporate green tea in your hair care regime?

Hair rinse
Simply brew about 2 -3 tea bags in a cup of boiled water for about 5 minutes. Take out the tea bags, allow to cool. lf you are using green tea leaves, you might have to leave it in the boiled water a longer time to infuse.
Next, gradually pour it over your hair and massage your scalp as you do. Cover your hair and rest for about 20 minutes. Then rinse it out with cool water and then style on damp hair.

Hair protein treatment.
Beat an egg into 2tbsp of well grounded green tea powder. Apply it over and leave it on for about an hour. Then rinse it out well with cool water. this hair treatment might leave particles of the green tea in your hair. But they do come off  from hair with time. So you do not need to worry about trying this hair treatment.

Mix with oils
Mix green tea powder with a carrier oil like coconut oil, olive oil or jojoba oil to a desired consistency. Leave it in for at least 24 hours to infuse well into the oil. Next sieve on a clean light cloth. A cotton hankerchief will do. This is a bit messy. You do not need to bother washing the oils of your hands. Just rub it off on your hair. Apply the infused oil over your hair from hair tips  to scalp. Gently massaging your scalp. Cover your hair and rest for about 1hour. Then rinse it off. This can serve as rinse out conditioner.

For maximum benefits, you need to use pure green tea. Over processed green tea with additives might have lost some of its nutrients. I found out that pure green tea does not taste all that great. So that might be the reason some people prefer drinking brewed green tea bags that have additives.

You can get green tea brands at grocery shops/supermarket in and around town/cities here in nigeria. To isolate a pure green tea brand, examine the content on the ingredient list before you buy. Some green tea brands contain ginseng, honey, lemon, ginger and more. You can shop varieties here

l isolated some good green tea brands you can shop online.

Julestherapy -Green tea extract
Puritan's Pride - Green tea leaves
Eco Essence Organics Green tea extract

lf you are not the DIY kind of person 😆, you can get good hair products that contain green tea. Here are some of them

Revlon- Green tea conditioner
Aphogee keratin & Green tea shampoo

Note: For extreme cases of progressive hair loss, it is advisable to see a health specialist / trichologist.

FULL BRAIG WIG FROM AIBEE'S HAIR COLLECTION

It was a great feeling when l tried out Aibee's full braid wig at @theeventshowng that was held in Port Harcourt few weeks ago. Again last weekend at @ocho_mma, she happened to be one of the vendors at the event. She sold out her braid wigs at the event. l feel l shouldn't keep this good feeling and goodnews to myself. So today will be all about Aibee's braid wig.

lt is true that the taste of the pudding is in the eating. l have come across a few brands of handmade braid wigs. Some of them have very visible spaces in between the braids that you will need to struggle to get a good styling that will hide them, thereby limiting your styling options. Some others do not properly fit on head, making you feel self conscious and too careful that it does not fall off from your hair and embarrass you.

But Aibee' braid wig is everything. lt is professionally made to hold on tight on the head, but not too tight to make you uncomfortable. You could jump and tumble with it without fears.. Sounds like am exaggerating..lol.. You have more styling options too.

So ladies, you need not worry about where and how to get a perfect braid wig.

You have a bad hair day? You have a dinner/event to attend and you are too busy to visit the salon or short of ideas on hair style? You want a full hair of braid wig in less than a minute? Just flip on Aibee's braid wig, style or let it fall of your shoulders and you are good to go.

It goes for #15,000. I must say it is affordable. A full braid wig in 24" for #15,000 naira! Babes, that is a cool bargain.

If you want it customized in different colors, length, and braid type and size, she's got you covered too.

Human Hair Weaves Revival Session.

Howdy? Hope cool?

I must apologize for not publishing post frequently like I use to. I got a bit busy with my other business. There is more demand now for my handcraft that l barely have time left to write articles. I aint complaining. Thank God for everything. But I will do my best to make it up to you here. So lets get down to today's topic.

With all the rave about natural hair and crochet braids, one might think that the market for weaves will gradually close down. That would be a quick conclusion tho. Weaves sew-ins are not that celebrated in the natural hair community. I guess majority of us know that. But weaves are not for sew-ins only, they are for wigs too.

Now I am on a teeny weeny Afro which you would have noticed if you follow my Instagram page. I could not help desiring more of wigs to switch looks easily.

So I am turning all weaves into wigs. I searched for my old human hair weaves to revamp into wigs. Then I found a dirty old smelling one (Aww! I kept you enclosed in a mess for about 9 months. lt was not intentional).

Here's how I revived my old dirty weave to a clean curly hair :
First, I worked out the tangles with a wide tooth comb starting from the ends carefully not to pull forcefully. For large tangles, I used my fingers. Next I poured a reasonable amount of shampoo into a bowl of water enough to submerge the weaves. I placed the weaves into the shampoo water and left it for about 10 minutes to loosen up the dirt within.

Then I gently rub the dirty mold covered areas. To bring out the dirt from the weaves body I did the dip-redip motion in the shampoo water for very few minutes.

Then I rinse repeatedly, changing water until it all the suds disappear  and water is clear. I try not to squeeze during the process.

They say, I mean internet, that we should use a mild  shampoo but I used an ORS sulfate shampoo which might leave my weaves dry and consequently frizzy. So I had to condition it to prevent this and return its shine and luster.

Hence, I dissolve a size-able amount of the conditioner in a small amount of water, worked it through the weaves in batches and left it to penetrate for about 1hour 30 min. Actually, that was a longer time than l planned.

Then I rinsed out the conditioner and wrapped it over a clean cloth to absorb excess water.

Next I comb through with a wide tooth comb, rubbed oil between my palm and smeared it over the damp weaves in batches and re-combed them. Finally, I styled it with rollers and left it to dry completely.

Does it not look great? It smells good too.

Are you wondering why I did not use warm water?
In reality, warm water gives a quick thorough wash, dissolving the accumulated oils, dirt and product build ups easily. That is its advantage. But overtime human hair becomes dry and frizz when you frequently expose it to heat. I learnt that from experience. Tell me what you think.

I will love to know your views.

DIY skin care ingredients/recipes for a girl on budget.

Hope everyone is fine? I care to ask because you and I know that this present economy is not smiling. So babes are cutting their coat according to their material. Lols. Lets get to business.

It has not been easy to access my dreamed magnifique natural ingredients like the rose hip oil and co, around me here in Port harcourt unless I have to purchase and get them delivered to me from Lagos. And who is ready to pay for the extra charges? I am among the least. Smh!

For the meantime, I had to make the best use of what I can lay my hands on to keep up with my skin care routine. This recipes have been effective and economical.

Recipes on a budget.

Honey + Oatmeal + Lemon juice
This recipe is simply everything. The oatmeal ( I mean Quaker oats) acts as a mild exfoliate. The honey is an excellent moisturizer, soothing and healing. The lemon juice is antiseptic, clearing the pores and lightening dark spots. After scrubbing face for 5 minutes, I leave it on for about 30 minutes before washing off. This scrub leave my face soft, hydrated and clear of acne till the next 2-3 days. My girlfriend can always tell whenever I do a scrub the night before.

Honey + Oatmeal + water
Each time I run out of lemon juice, I find myself using this recipe, substituting the lemon juice with water. They say, ‘half a loaf is better than nothing'. Exfoliation is not an option. It is a must for good skin.

Honey + Lemon juice
For a quickie, I cut out a lemon. Place a few drops of honey on half and scrub face gently in circles. The pulp mildly sloughs off the dead skin cells, exposing fresher smooth skin.

Honey + Turmeric
This recipe is more of a mask recipe and less of a scrub. It nourishes and heals the skin, smoothens it to a glow and gives it that plump look.

These are tried and true DIY recipes for a girl with oily, sensitive, acne prone skin.

What are your tried and true recipes on budget?

Cro-Havana twist from freedom hair collection - Product review.

This post has been on my desk for some weeks now. I have been procrastinating publishing it till now.

This is a review on my first Havana twist crochet braids. I got many questions and compliments and even made new friends during its installation, so it is worth making a review on it. Though I could not get pictures of the process of install but I will show you similar pictures.

What I used
I used Cro-Havana twist from freedom hair collection, 3c 12 inches color 1. I must say, I like the beautiful attractive quality packaging. Each pack contains 8 pieces of 2-in-1 pretwisted hair. I used 6 packs and still felt it wasn't full enough.

Freedom hair collection does have other different crochet braid types in varied length and limited colors. You will see some of them displayed at the back of the packaging.

Below the back side of the packaging are pictures of crochet braid pattern and the process of installation.

Actually, I did not use the suggested crochet braid pattern. I got stylist close home to make mine like that in the picture below. Mine was 10 cornrows in all, 3 one each side and in the middle, 2 pairs meeting midway into one cornrow. Then I installed the crochet braids myself. It was so easy and quick. In 2 hours or less you are done.

Pros
The crochet braid is soft and feels real light on head and bouncy.
Its a preferable type for quick crochet braid install.
It is easy to wash hair underneath, so wash day is less dramatic.

Cons
The no-good thing about it is that, it frizzes and tangles easily, with hair sticking out easily from the hair body which my left eye will testify to.
It can get real rough in about 2 weeks when not handled with care. I have come across ladies that wore theirs for barely 2 weeks and it looked like they have had it on for months. So I challenged mine to 4 -6 weeks.
To prevent the early tangles and roughness, I do not hid the bed without wrapping the braids up in a satin scarf. To lengthen the life span, it is best to pack it up in a pineaple method, then wrap up in satin scarf.

Styling Options

The first few days of install, I was not just feeling the braids, so I had it most times in an uphair do styling with scarf covering the exposed back side. As the days run into weeks and with the compliments that came along, I got more comfortable and came to like it.

Is it reusable?
I doubt. Even with all the pampering I gave it, I got a bit disappointed when taking it down. At the time of uninstall, it looked like it will go in on a reinstall, but the tangles and frizzes dominating the cornrows area made the crochet braids removal process tricky and unsmooth. I had to cut out about 6 crochet braids with scissors close to the cornrows to save my natural hair from forcefully detaching from the root.

This the picture of what it looks like after taking it down. Does it look reusable?

Rating
I give it a 7/10. Because I intend recycling it into a full hair wig, I would have rated it less.

Will I repurchase?
I don't think so but I might try other freedom hair crochet braids types.

It is the crochet braid revolution!!

DIY homemade body wash - 100% natural

In a bid to find an escape from bad skincare and hair products, you can choose to make your own. There are good natural product brands now in the market that are affordable but some days you might just feel like inventing products in your "small home factory". The advantage is that you are in full control of what ingredients you use and they do not really cost much. Plus you will do your health and body good since your concerns are that the product are natural as possible, free from parabens, sulphates, artificial additives and what nots, that endanger health and the environment.

Much said, I will like to show you how you can make your own Body wash and Natural hair shampoo.
This DIY product has its major cleansing agent as the raw african black soap. Raw African black soap is made from plantain ash, cocoa pods and palm kernel oil/coconut oil - all natural. To make this suitable for hair, the pH of the soap needs to be adjusted to that of the hair. This is done by superfattening with oils and/or juices to reduce the alkanity to appropriate level suitable for hair. Hence,  prevent loss of hair protein and moisture.

Here is the process of preparation

Use
1 cup of Warm/Cool water (choice)
African black soap
4 tbsp Olive oil
5 tbsp  Honey
5 tbsp Coconut oil
4 tbsp Castor oil
2 tbsp Aloe vera juice/lemon juice

Learn to make your own Aloe vera gel/juice here

This DIY body wash doubles as a natural hair shampoo. It has been my body wash for the past four months before I gave a break to try out Coily crown Baobab softening shampoo  for a body wash.

Procedure
*First wash your hands and any tools you will be using like the spoon and containers.

*Break the black soap into pieces as much as could fill 1 cup and place it in the warm/cool water inside a bowl.

*Add the other ingredients.

*Stir gently. Don't bother over stirring to dissolve the soap. Just leave to rest for some time it will dissolve completely. Then stir a bit. You can dilute it more with about half to 1 cup of water if you want a more watery solution for bath.

*Pour it into a clean empty plastic container with applicator tip.( You can as well get an empty container of a bad shampoo, wash it and refill it with your own).

*It separates and settles after sitting for hours. So shake a bit to mix content before use.

How to use on hair
Pour a sizeable amount into your palm
Rub palm over hair gently and massage shampoo into scalp to get a good clean.
Rinse your hair well with enough cool water .You can condition your hair, if necessary and/or you do a final rinse ( I will write about some final rinse options in subsequent post).
Then wrap up your hair with cloth to dry excess water.

Follow up with a leave-in conditioner and then style.

There are different hair types, so it might work differently on different hair types.

Try it out on your skin. It lathers so well and deep cleanses, clearing blemishes gives you an even skin tone and more of the benefits of raw african black soap. You will be glad you did.

What natural skincare and hair products do you make yourself?

The Beauty of Crochet Braids $ Tips For Installation

Crochet braids is gaining much popularity in Nigeria now more than ever. Its a trend, but it looks like one of those that is here forever to stay because of its advantages over other braiding techniques.

To start with, crochet braid, as the name implies, is the use of special crochet hook (latch hook) to install braids on hair. The crochet hook is looped under the cornrows and secured.

The crochet braids used, can be already twisted hair, wavy, curly, kinky synthetic/human hair. In this post, more concentration will be given to already twisted crochet braids.

Advantages
* It is a super time-saver when compared to the time spent to make on box braids or twist. You can get a full head of braids/twists in 3hours or less. Isn't that amazing?

* It is gentle to your hair and protects it. The crochet braids are wrapped around the cornrows, placing little stress on your hair roots and scalp.

* It is DIY friendly. It is so easy to make at your convenience. For me, evenings and night times are free times to do my crochet. I can't imagine calling in a stylist at that time of the day.

*It can be styled immediately after installation unlike others that you will need to wait days to weeks to style.

* Uninstalling crochet braids is so easy. While I don't mind spending time to make braids, box braids, twists or faux locs, I always dread taking them down because I prefer to do it gently myself and that takes so much time and stress.
Additionally, you can remove and add braids to your hair easily after installation to suit the fullness you desire.

* Some say , it is budget friendly. But that depends on the brand, style, volume and hair type.

* It does not need glue or chemicals like some weave sew-in techniques do. It is safe.

Here are some tips you need to know about crochet braids before installing them:

* Always prepare your hair before installation by properly detangling, washing, deep conditioning treatments and moisturizing with your leave-in-conditioner.

* Consider the condition of your hair. If you have chemically treated hair(relaxed hair) or thin hair, you will need to add braiding hair to your cornrows for a stronger base. If you just relaxed your hair, wait a few days before installation as your hair is in its weak state moments after relaxer use.

* Take care not to braid the cornrows tightly especially at the edges to avoid tension and tugging.

* During installation, the crochet braids at the front part of the of your hair and the likely visible parts during styling, should be done properly for a more realistic look.

* Use specific crochet braiding cornrow base patterns for specific crochet braid hair styles so as to have good coverage. If expertly installed, people will need to get too close to confirm you have crochet braids on your hair.

COILY CROWN BAOBAB MOUSE AND SHAMPOO - PRODUCT REVIEW

Howdy friends?

I am excited to inform you that Coily Crown products are in Nigeria!

I stumbled on Coily crowns stand at the WedExpo in Portharcourt recently where I met Korkor  and Esther of Kibet essentials. We had a nice chat and they told me  about how wonderful Coily crown products are. One thing that kept ringing in my mind after our chat was how softening, coily crown shampoos are. Hard hair is one of the challenge faced by most naturalistas in this part of the continent. So here's a solution! Get any of Coily crowns softening shampoos and thank me later.

I got Coily Crown Baobab set  , reminiscing my childhood moments with the baobabs in Ghana and Lome. As kids, we could lick so much of the baobab fruits till our mandibles get fatigue and mouth gets sore.

So here I am making a review. IMO!

Coily Crown Moisturizing Mousse

What Coily crown says
Baobab oil has a way of leaving your hair silky and soft. This moisturizing mousse is a blend of baobab oil, cocoa butter and peppermint oil which works wonders for dry, itchy scalp. It helps to seal in moisture after each wash and works well for daily application to your hair, scalp and skin.

Ingredients
Cocoa butter, baobab oil, orange oil, peppermint oil.

Smell
It has a raw earthy aroma and nutty, chocolatey smell that makes one think of chocolates.

You can see what it looks like inside.

It can get real hard in very cold weather and melt easily in warm weather. So keep in cool dry place.

Benefits of the major ingredient - Cocoa butter
Hair
*Adds moisture to hair without weighing it down.
*Gives hair extra conditioning and nourishment.
Skin
*It is an excellent skin moisturizer.
*It minimizes fine line and wrinkles.
*It smoothens patches of skin at joints.
*It fades dark spots and heals wound scars.
*It increases skin elasticity so that skin stretches and expands without tearing during pregnancy or weight gain.

Note: If you are allergic to chocolates, you might show similar reactions with this mousse because they are both made from cocao.

Pros of the mousse
You get the benefits of the cocoa butter and the other natural ingredients.
+It is good for a pre- shampoo treatment.
+It is very suitable for hot oil hair treatment.
+It can serve as a hair leave-in-conditioner. Even regular daily use on hair does not weigh it down.
+It gives the skin a superficial silky shiny glow all day.
+It controls acne and pimples. Personally, I was scared to use it on my oily sensitive face. Then I tried it out. Five days of use to publishing of this post, I could confidently boast of no new pimples popping out.

Cons
-The price is a bit on the high side. 2900 naira for 250ml. A little discount will be appreciated.

Rating
4/5

Coily Crown Baobab Softening Shampoo

What Coily crown says
This has a conditioning shampoo formula which is a mix of Alata samina (Black soap), honey and baobab oil. It cleanses without leaving your hair dry or brittle.

Ingredients
Baobab oil, distilled water, cocoa pod, plantain skin, palm kernel oil, honey, peppermint oil.

Smell
It has a sweet honey minty smell.

Benefits of the major ingredient - Baobab oil.
*It treats dandruff, dry scalp, excema, psoriasis and rosacea
*It protects hair from sun damage.
*Has anti-aging properties.
*It is quickly absorbed into skin leaving a silky feel.
*It does not clog pores.

Pros of softening shampoo
You get the benefits of baobab oil and the other natural ingredients.
+It contains No sulphates, No parabens, No artificial additives. 100% natural.
+It is a moisturizing shampoo.
+It conditions hair while cleansing. So you do not need to use a rinse-out-conditioner after use.
+It softens hair and leaves it noticeably silky.
+Its adds volume to hair.
+It perfectly double as body wash. Excellently cleansing and refreshingly rich to the skin.
+You get more value for your pay, 1900 naira .

Cons
-One needs to be careful when pouring out the shampoo to prevent waste from spill. One way I prevent this, is by pouring out a quantity into a nozzle container for use.
-If you use it as a body wash, you can experience the same drying potential, characteristics of the raw african black soap.  So after bath, immediately follow up with your moisturizer to retain moisture.

Rating
5/5. I could give it 7/5 if there is any such rating.

*Remarkable of 100% natural products brands is the fact the they are multi-taskers. Its perfect for use from head to toe unlike the commercial chemical brands.

Will I repurchase?
I am a happy advocate of natural brands. I can go for Coily Crowns anytime. Infact, the softening shampoo is now one of my ride-or-die staple. The moisturizing mouse will stay as long as I have dark spots to clear and stretch marks to prevent.
